I've been tagged by Erica Orloff, author of The Roofer (one of my favorite books), and Mafia Chic (soon to be produced by Warner as a pilot for a CBS TV show), and many many other fine books you can find on her website (see links). I'm supposed to come up with five interesting or unique things about myself.

One of these five is fictional. See if you can guess which one.

1. When I was in my early twenties, one New Years Eve at midnight, I kissed twenty-seven different women (all strangers) at The Phoenix Hill Tavern in Louisville, Ky. Several of them came back for seconds.

2. I dressed in drag at a Halloween block party one year. Full makeup, black spandex pants and black boots, turquoise Rayon top with 36Ds, shoulder-length black hair. I was a knockout (I won the costume contest, btw).

3. In 1983, I took a trip to LA and watched a taping of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Drummer Buddy Rich was on the show that night, and I met him and 'traded licks' for a few minutes backstage after the show.

4.When I was 11, some creepy guy took my picture in the park one afternoon. The next morning the photo took up a full 1/4 of the front page of the nationally acclaimed Courier-Journal (Louisville's daily newspaper). I was a celebrity at school that day!

5.I was in the movie Stripes with Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and John Candy. A few other nitwits and I (including Bill), went to the wrong restaurant for lunch. Universal had catering brought in, but we got the wrong info somehow. The assistant director was pissed!

Okay, I tag Aaron Lazar, Joe Konrath, Kristy Montee (PJ Parrish), Kathy McGee and Lainey Bancroft. Like me, everyone is allowed one secret fictional entry among the five. Have fun!

LOVE it!

I guess # 3 is fictional, as in maybe you went to the taping but didn't meet him backstage.

Am I right?????????????????

Hi Erica:

I'll wait for a few more guesses before I reveal the bogus one. Thanks!

Well, for sure I can see you:

1. Kissing the girls and making them die
2. Dressing up like a hooker
3. Drumming with Buddy
4. Getting your 15 minutes in the CJ.

But something sounds fishy about the last one!

Hi Kris:

Thanks for stopping by!

This is interesting, because it's one of the techniques we use in fiction sometimes. We set up a series of facts to make our lies seem believable. They used to do it on Star Trek all the time.

Capt. Kirk: "...all the great philosophers throughout history. Plato, Socrates, Krotus IV..."

Hi Lainey:

Too funny!

This thing is going around on several blogs now, and it's really interesting to see the diverse and remarkable experiences some writers have had.

I was in the bus station scene in Stripes, where they're leaving for boot camp. That little two-minute scene took over twelve hours to shoot! There was a part that didn't make the cut, where John Candy was singing "Day-0. Day-ay-ay-O. Daylight come and I want to go home..." Then his character got angry about something and kicked a suitcase. They must have gone through a dozen takes, and on the last one John kicked the suitcase so hard he made a hole in it! Ivan Reitman and crew just laughed and said, "That's a wrap." John WASN'T one of the ones who went to the wrong restaurant, btw.

Okay, I'll go ahead and admit it. Never played drums with Buddy Rich. It was always a fantasy of mine, though. Erica got the right answer first, so she gets a signed ARC of my book when it gets published. Guess I better finish it so she can get her prize. :)

Jude, I would have guessed the drum playing of the movie role.

Thanks for the tag. I'll post on http://kathyelkinsmcgee.blogspot.com/

Can you guess which of the five is fictional?

Hi Kathy:

Funny...I thought SOMEBODY would have found kissing 27 strange women in a bar fantastic. Of course, if I hadn't had my beer goggles on, some of them might have LOOKED like Buddy Rich. :)

I'll check your blog. Thanks for playing!

Jude, 27 women? Did you get the flu? lol. Fun answers, and my guess was the movie believe it or not. Not that you're not a fine actor, but what are the chances! You've lived an interesting life.

Hi Ladonna:

Can't remember if I caught the flu after that. LOL. If I did, it was worth it.

And yeah, I've had some crazy adventures. I'm hoping the best are yet to come! All good grist for an aspiring author, I think.

Give it a go, Aaron. Lying can be fun!

I've been trying to think of a name for this game. Any suggestions? Anybody?

Hi Lainey:

I like 'Four Facts and a Fib.'

I'm really jazzed that something I thought up has become so popular. Maybe I'll create a TV game show and become fabulously wealthy! :)
